Description

Sit back and relax on our fully-fitted GT Coach and enjoy the drive to the most authentic area of Tuscany, with its medieval towns and postcard landscapes. Our multilingual expert tour leader will be happy to share the secrets of the area with you! The journey begins in San Gimignano, the so-called “Manhattan of the Middle Ages” due to the high ancient towers that stand out along the city center. Step back in time while you wander through its cobblestone streets and let the stunning views of the surrounding hills amaze you. Also, don’t forget to have a taste of the famous local gelato, available in a variety of unusual flavors. The second stop is the town of alabaster: the scenic Volterra in all its medieval charm. Perched on top of a hill, from Volterra you will enjoy a breathtaking view that will leave you in awe. Make sure not to miss the Palace of Priors, the Medici Fortress or the Etruscan Museum, which is one of the oldest public museums in Europe. Before leaving, don’t forget to browse around the plenty of artisan workshops scattered throughout the historic center. Craftsmanship is, in fact, the pride of Volterra and you can’t miss the chance to bring home with you a unique handmade alabaster artifact as a memento of the day. Your final stop is the mysterious San Galgano Abbey, just about one hour drive from Volterra. Of the 13th Century Cistercian abbey only the walls remain: it is empty and roofless, above it only the sky. Prepare to travel with your imagination as you step inside and let the grandeur of the gothic architecture inspire you. If you love myths and legends this is the place to be: take the path to the close Eremo di Montesiepi and step back to the court of King Arthur as you will find yourselves standing before the real Sword in the Stone.
