The food was undeniably excellent, exactly what one would expect from Tuscan cuisine. Unfortunately, what was completely unexpected was the treatment we received from the staff. From the moment we sat down, it felt as though we were being rushed through our meal. We were the only table subjected to this treatment. On multiple occasions, staff attempted to clear our plates while food was obviously still on them, creating the unmistakable impression that they wanted us out as quickly as possible, while other table were still having their appetisers. And there was no queue outside nor was the restaurant packed. What happened at the end of the meal was even more disappointing. We watched other tables receive complimentary chocolates and various small gestures from the restaurant, while our table received nothing. Only after we specifically asked about it, and even insisted were any chocolates brought to us. Even then, despite there being four people clearly seated at the table, we were given only three. It is difficult to understand why we were treated differently from every other guest in the restaurant. We were the only Asian diners present, and based on our experience, it is impossible not to wonder whether that played a role in the way we were treated. Excellent food can only go so far. Hospitality is just as important, and being made to feel unwelcome, singled out, and treated differently from other guests completely overshadowed what should have been a memorable dining experience.
Removed two stars because of the service. Party of 4 Asians and they definitely did not treat us the same as the other patrons dining there. Huge steep hill to get here but the views are unparalleled. Their olive oil is so good. The mixed cheese plate was a 8.3 out of 10. The blue cheese and the pecorino were our favorites. I also liked the chives went well with the cheeses. The soft cheeses were a little too similar for my taste. I liked the bucheron type cheese also. The burrata with truffle was good. The beef carpaccio was also delicious. Florintine more expensive steak was just okay, not mind blowing. The wine they chose was good. The beans and potatoes were good sides. The tagliatelle with truffles was good also. The tiramisu was decent but the Mille fiore with strawberries was very good. The biggest complaint was the service. There was a major lag in between courses and the staff kept asking us multiple times to remove plates before we were done. Something they did not do to the neighboring tables. No one refilled our wine or water unless we asked. No one checked on us either except to continually ask us if they could remove plates with food on them still. And all the other tables got free truffles with their check. We had to ask and they brought 3 truffles for 4 people then made some lame excuse that he didn’t know there were 4 of us when we were all there at the table. I would go back to the area for the view but not for the food. Nothing particularly outstanding about the food. Steak was reasonable but it wasn’t that special or good.
I discovered the restaurant on a food blog when I was researching places to eat in or near Florence. If you enjoy a chef dedicated to serving beautiful dishes, and you appreciate impeccable customer service, La Reggia is a must visit stop. Did I mention the restaurant sits atop a hill with a beautiful view looking back at Florence (La Reggia is located about 20 min away by taxi in Fiesole)? For antipasti, I would recommend the Rotolini Di Zucchine Con Prosciutto Crudo E Robiola (Zucchini rolls with ham and robiola cheese). There are four to an order and they are a perfect light choice to ignite your pallet. La Reggie has an extensive wine list to pair with the Rotolini and all your dining choices. For our main course we chose from the Primi menu. We went with the Ravioli Ai Carciofi Con Taleggio E Pancetta Croccante (Ravioli with artichokes, taleggio cheese and crispy bacon) and the Rigatoni Alla Barrocciaia Salsiccia, pomodoro,crema di latte legermente piccante (rigatoni with sausage, tomatoes, spicy milk cream). The Ravioli were like little pillows of love. The flavors melded together into a perfect bite every time. Don't let the word spicy dissuade you from trying the Rigatoni. It's "Italian spicy," so not much at all. What it does do is provide a zesty background flavor that complements the other components. Enjoy a fine dining experience at a family- owned restaurant that is dedicated to providing you with a perfect night out.
Heard about this place on a random Instagram reel and it was amazing as advertised. The steak was great, the dessert was amazing, wine and atmosphere were top notch. The only downside was having to take a €90 Uber ride back to Florence because there was no other way to get back.
We had a phenomenal time here. It was me, my wife, and our son, and we came as a pre-celebration for her birthday. The staff was incredibly kind to our son and very accommodating overall. They allowed him to order à la carte and made us feel completely welcome. The tasting menu was excellent and highly recommended. Very knowledgeable staff and a great experience all around. We would 100% come back and recommend it to anyone.
