The best food I had in Florence! Just a 35 minute walk or 15 minute bus ride from Santa Maria Novella Station, and it is TOTALLY worth the trip. The restaurant is operated by a couple, who happen to be the server and chef, and they were delightful. I made a reservation, but you can walk in without one. The place was filled with locals and reasonably priced. Our server (the wife) was very kind. She spoke great English, she explained the menu, and was very helpful in deciding what to order. While we waited, we were served Puglia-style bread that was made in the restaurant that morning. It was delicious. For an appetizer, our server suggested bread topped with sausage and kale, and I’ve never liked kale that much in my life. For our main courses, my husband ordered Gnocchi with pumpkin and I ordered pasta that was dyed with squid ink. The gnocchi was soft and the pumpkin was slightly sweet with the sauce. The black pasta was amazing. The sauce was salty and light, and the calamari was perfectly cooked, it melted in my mouth. The whole experience was wonderful. You need to go if you’re visiting Florence.
This was a hidden gem! My wife and I walked in randomly, it requires reservations seemingly, but we only had to wait 20 mins to get seated. It felt like a true Italian restaurant, no menu in English but Olga(our server) was so helpful walking us through each item and explaining where it comes from. The food was spectacular, we got the pesto and gnocchi pastas. Tiramisu was amazing!! We sat right next to locals who frequent the restaurant multiple times a week, it was very comforting and also fun to be in the middle of Italian “chaos” Wish this wasn’t found on our last day because we’d be back every night!
This small Osteria close to where we were staying was a real find with such a warm welcome from the owner who was most helpful in translating menu options. Proper Tuscan cuisine that was well cooked with real flavour and a treat to experience local dishes we hadn't tried before. We had to go back on our last evening and an equally good experience with different dishes - highly recommended to visit this family-run establishment if you are in the area.
In spite of the fact that we arrived before they were scheduled to open, we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. The food was delicious and we very enjoyed the atmosphere and excellent service.
The waiters were very kind and welcoming, they even explained the menu to us in English, how they cooked their dishes and gave recommendations. Our favorite was their fresh baked bread, super soft and tasted quite unique compared to other places’ bread we’ve tried in Italy. The hospitality was great!
