Description
Our Artisans of Florence tour is part of a series of programs that show visitors a side of this historic city that many never see. During our day together we’ll visit workshops where you’ll see Florence artisans at work on paper, precious metals and stone, following ancient techniques and traditions. We begin our tour with a walk along the narrow, winding streets of Santa Croce before stopping at our first workshop. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the various Florentine neighborhoods, with a focus on local arts and crafts history. At our first workshop, you’ll see how the artisans create marbled papers using traditional methods. After our visit we’ll move on to another artisan site. The second workshop we visit will be one that specializes in the art of ancient book binding and restoration, or ceramics, textile restoration, or wood carving. We’ll make a stop for lunch at Restaurant Gastone, where you’ll be able to try various Tuscan specialties and local wines. Following our lunch, we will head to the Ponte Vecchio area to visit a jewelry production workshop that’s outside the old Roman Gate. At the workshop you’ll meet a trio of young, enthusiastic artisans who will show you the entire jewelry-making process including smelting, welding and encasing techniques.Includes
