We ordered the chicken liver pâté crostini, the fettucce al ragu, and the ribeye steak. After going through some reviews about them having the best steak ever, we decided to get the ribeye. Unfortunately I wasn’t wow-ed. The flavour was great and it had a deep meaty taste, but the texture was bad. Not sure if it was the cut that we got, but it was extremely difficult to cut through and chew through about 60% of it, and this is coming from someone who loves eating tendons and has had many steaks, usually rare or medium-rare. I’d like to believe we had an off dish since some people said that theirs melted in their mouth. The ragu pasta was delicious though, I would order more of that next time! The liver crostini was ok, nothing amazing but tasted good. Maybe if there was more of a texture contract between the soft bread and the pâté it may be better. You’ll need to make reservations beforehand as they are always booked up for days. Overall, still enjoyed the food and the staff was friendly!
I have visited this restaurant twice, in November 2025 and again in May 2026, and both visits were absolutely wonderful experiences! The food was outstanding, and the Florentine steak was simply amazing. The side dishes were just as delicious and complemented the meal perfectly. We were lucky to get a table fairly quickly, as this trattoria is usually very busy and often has a long waiting line. Now I’m actually afraid to try Florentine steak anywhere else because this one has set the bar so high! 😆 Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great place to try Fiorentine steak! We tried Bistecca alla Fiorentina nel filetto and it was perfect!! Very tasty and tender meat, it wasn't tough at all. My boyfriend doesn't usually like rare or medium rare steaks, but this one was perfect, even for him. We were able to make a reservation via their instagram profile, which was really great. Recommendations to here if you are in Florence and try their steak!
Oh my, the food was absolutely delicious. So good we went back twice during our stay in Florence. Feels like you are having a home cooked meal with friends. The chips and pasta reminded me of nonna’s, so made it extra special.
I have had a lot of steaks in my life, but the one at Trattoria Mario was easily one of the best I have ever had. It is a classic, no-nonsense Tuscan spot that has clearly mastered the art of meat, and it is exactly what you hope for when you visit a historic trattoria in Italy. The steak was the absolute highlight, cooked perfectly as per tradition, and the quality was just outstanding. The place is always very busy and has a great, simple energy. It is technically a lunch-only spot most days, only opening for a few hours from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM. They do not even take reservations, so we were incredibly lucky to get a seat just by taking a chance. Arriving without a booking is a huge gamble, but it paid off for one of the most memorable meals I have had. It is a must-visit that actually exceeds the high expectations. I would go back in a heartbeat just for that steak alone.
