The easiest thing about the airport is the tram drops you right out front and the ride is cheap from Florence, it was less than 2 euros. The tax redemption process was not easy and almost not worth it. This is a small packed airport that does not reflect the city it represents. I would have taken the train back to Milan if we knew more before we planned our trip. It was confusing to figure out where we should sit or the terminal we would go out even though it was so small. There was some renovations going on but not at the terminals.
Small airport, I found the queue at customs a bit slow. Easy reachable by tram T2 from Florence center. Not to much seats in the waiting rooms but this is probably cause there are not too much flights. So in general, you can get pretty quickly from the entrance to the gate.
✈️ Excellent, compact, and super convenient airport! ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ I have flown through Florence Airport (Peretola) several times, and every time I am delighted by its main advantage — its size and accessibility. After huge, chaotic hubs like Rome Fiumicino, Peretola feels incredibly cozy and easy to navigate.
Florence is a popular tourist destination and the Amerigo Vespucci airport is no big enough for the amount of people; confusing and lack of information. Few stores and restaurants Have to take a shuttle from the plane to the terminal. Getting to the city is very convenient Tram T2 just outside the terminal, takes 20 minutes to reach the city center for only 1.70 euro
*Airport opens at 4am! So if you're flight is at 6 dont bother coming earlier than 3:30am otherwise you will be waiting outside. We waited for a whole hr.* There was nowhere that said this information except for a sign on the outside of their automatic sliding doors. I didnt see any signs about this inside the airport so you might not notice like we did when we arrived so just a heads up (because who is reading a sign on a sliding door thats constantly open when you're exiting?). The workers also aren't at their desk by then. This means the doors open at 4 but the workers will take their time setting up while u wait on line. If you're doing the tax return for your purchase, you have to book in first!! They need your booking pass to do the stamp and first part of the tax return. Go upstairs, check in (unless you did e-check in), go back downstairs and make the line thats in front of the cafe that's next to the entrance. They will then check your passport, your check in ticket, and receipts - stamp it. And then you have to walk across to the other side of the entrance (there should be in big letters on the wall that says Tax Return) and make that line. They open at 5:00 am i think (sometimes they will open a few mins earlier like they did when i was there so it was like 4:48 am). Besides the non-communication about the hours, the airport itself is clean and things are sort of label really well. When we were boarding, the staff did seem all over the place. Normally when the boarding happens, they call you by groups - this did not happen. They called us to start going up and then i saw one staff member try to check our passes and then gave up because there was no organization.
