Description
We will walk through the streets of medieval Florence to discover a world of perfumes, secret remedies, and ancient knowledge. We will visit an artisanal perfumery housed in a splendid Renaissance palace and cross the district of workshops where fragrances, ointments, soaps, balms and painters' colors were once prepared, along with paper, wax and precious inks.
We will remember the protagonists of the ancient Art of Physicians and Apothecaries, but we will also meet the city's most curious figures: the charlatans who, with great theatrical skill, sold herbs, amulets, elixirs, and mysterious miraculous waters in the squares, promising health and good fortune.
The route will end in the extraordinary Santa Maria Novella's pharmaceutical workshop, considered the oldest pharmacy in Europe, where the Dominican friars were already distilling medicinal herbs and flowers as early as 1221, creating preparations that have spanned the centuries.
A fascinating journey through the Florence of ancient pharmacies, among science, perfumes and a touch of magic.
