Description

Whether it’s your first time in Florence or you have visited before, a walking tour is the ideal way to get oriented for your time in the city. Get the low down from a local as you explore Santa Maria Novella, San Giovanni, Piazza della Signoria and the notorious Ponte Vecchio.  Your walking tour begins at Santa Maria Novella square famous for its beautiful church, the genius work of Leon Battista Alberti. Your guide will tell you the fascinating history of the church and piazza, including past traditions such as chariot racing. Continue strolling the streets of Florence to the religious center, San Giovanni Square. Here you'll find the famous Duomo (Florence Cathedral) with its majestic dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. The massive cathedral dominates Florence's city skyline.  Next, you’ll visit the small church of Orsanmichele which houses beautiful statues by Renaissance artists. Your tour continues to Piazza della Signoria, still the political center of Florence. This piazza is home to the imposing Palazzo Vecchio which houses the famous Neptune and David statues. The last destination on your walking tour will be Ponte Vecchio and the river that flows under it, the Arno. The medieval stone bridge is famous for the shops built along its sides which can only be accessed on foot.  Ponte Vecchio is the perfect place to end your Florence walking tour. Your guide will bid you farewell, but not without giving you plenty of local tips and recommendations for the best shopping, food and entertainment for your Florence stay.
