Description

Who was the renowned poet, painter, sculptor, and architect Michelangelo Buonarroti? Join this Michelangelo tour to walk in the artist's footsteps and explore the city where he grew up and produced many of his masterpieces. You will learn how the artist contributed to Florence's reputation as a special location for art as you walk along the picturesque cobblestone streets of this amazing Renaissance city with our knowledgeable guide. You will discover where he was born, his family history, see his childhood residence, discover what and where he studied, and admire his numerous works of art. As you get to know the man behind the artist, amusing facts, tales, and anecdotes will vividly depict his rivalries and character. During this Michelangelo tour, you will discover the significant places associated with his artwork, from the Buonarroti residence, where he created his initial pieces, to his burial site. We are going to have a look inside the Bargello, Florence's National Museum, where you can find masterworks by Mannerists and Renaissance artists. Four significant sculptures by Michelangelo will be on display: Tondo Pitti, a stunning example of the renowned 'non finito,' Bacchus, Brutus, and David-Apollo. Additionally, you will be able to make significant comparisons with other pieces in the museum, such as the bronze David sculptures by Donatello and Verrocchio. During the Michelangelo tour, you will see important sites related to this renowned artist as we go from museum to museum. Our next stop will be the Opera del Duomo museum, where we will have a look at the Palestrina Pietà, one of his final creations, which is a piece of art that is impossible to see in person without being impacted by it. This Pietà, which Michelangelo carved for his own tomb, captures the agony and suffering of his latter years. The last stop on the tour will be the well-known Accademia Museum, home of Michelangelo's David, one of the most famous statues in the world. There will be time set out to examine this sculpture as well as to admire another of his creations, 'Prisoners', which was begun but never completed when it was commissioned for Pope Julius II's tomb. This is where the tour ends so that anybody who wants to continue exploring this significant museum can walk around its corridors. This tour includes the following landmarks: Basilica of Santa Croce (from outside) Bargello National Museum Piazza della Signoria Loggia dei Lanzi Palazzo Vecchio (from outside) Orsanmichele church (from outside) Florence Duomo (from outside) Museum of the Opera del Duomo Baptistery doors (Gates of Paradise) Medici Chapels Accademia Gallery
