Giardino dell'Iris - Iris Garden
Florence
The Iris Garden hosts more than 2000 varieties of the iris/lily flower, named after the messenger of the goddess Iris. The representation of the stylized Lily is found in the first coins of the Florentine Republic of the 12th century and later in the gold Florin.
The Lily, emblem of the city of Florence, appears all over the city in many different decorations on walls and buildings. Its regular color is red, but you may find Florence often covered with flags with a purple Lily as purple is the color of the Florence soccer team, Fiorentina.
